Our story
Welcome to the Association for Ethnogeology and Geoarcheology, LLC. Learn about our mission to include Indigenous knowledge with scientific understanding of Earth's history. We're dedicated to validating Indigenous narratives and fostering collaborative research.

The inspiration behind our association
Driven by close ties with the Nez Perce (nimiipuu) and other Plateau Tribes, we realized the immense value of traditional oral histories in understanding geologic events witnessed by Indigenous Peoples. Our goal is to ensure these stories receive proper validation, enabling scientists and tribal communities to collaborate and expand research into Pleistocene geologic events in the Pacific Northwest.

Our vision for the future
We envision a future where Earth Scientists fully recognize the validity of Indigenous stories and actively collaborate with Indigenous communities in the PNW and beyond. This collaboration will enhance research into both known and previously unknown geologic events, fostering a more comprehensive understanding of our planet's history.

What makes us unique
Roger Amerman, with an MS in geology and as an enrolled tribal member, brings invaluable Indigenous perspective. Ellen Morris Bishop, a PhD geologist, journalist, and photographer specializing in PNW geology and Nez Perce history, bridges scientific rigor with cultural understanding. Together, we recognize the geological accuracy within Nez Perce oral traditions and honor Indigenous Americans as pioneering geologists through their resource knowledge.
"The association's work in validating indigenous knowledge has been truly groundbreaking. Their dedication to collaboration and respect for diverse perspectives is commendable."
A. Thompson, Cultural Anthropologist
